89 300e transmission won't shift into drive
I have an 89 300e, that I put a new transmission in it about 50,000 miles ago. On my way to work this morning I stoped at a light and when I started to go it just wouldn't shift into high gear.
transmission fluid seems to be good and I did a transmission service on it less than 20,000 miles ago. Can anyone give me advice on this |

Disconnect the kick down solenoid at the right rear of the trans. If it makes a difference the problem is the cheap plastic switch under the gas pedal. I like to start at the trans solenoid as that verifies there are no electrical circuit causes. I have never seen it but since kickdown is regulated in the fuel pump relay a defect there could also keep it engaged, but not if disconnected at the trans.

Ok I'll give that a shot tonight after I get home from work. Thank you.
The plastic switch under the gas pedal would need to be replaced if it will switch gears after I disconnect the solenoid, If I understand you correctly? |

Yes, most likely. You could just start at the switch as it is usually the problem. Just disconnect it.
