Which Gasket Is This?

Sorry I don't have a picture, mores the pity. I have a leak
on my 190e which seems to be from a vertical gasket which is between the back of the engine block and the propshaft (?)

I'd say its about 4 inches behind the steering damper and about level with the Steering box. Its very dark and oily down there and so rather hard to be more accurate.

Any ideas?

Mike.

I don't think there are any gaskets back there. I suspect what you're seeing is a leak at the interface of the engine and transmission. Could be the rear crank seal, an engine block freeze plug or the transmission front seal. Could also be a leak from higher up trickling to where you see it.

I feel its a low down leak and the engine/transmission
meeting point sounds right. Its certainly not the oil sump. I'll really have to get the undertray thing off and give the area a damned good scrub.
