Which Gasket Is This?
Sorry I don't have a picture, mores the pity. I have a leak
on my 190e which seems to be from a vertical gasket which is between the back of the engine block and the propshaft (?) I'd say its about 4 inches behind the steering damper and about level with the Steering box. Its very dark and oily down there and so rather hard to be more accurate. Any ideas? Mike.

I don't think there are any gaskets back there. I suspect what you're seeing is a leak at the interface of the engine and transmission. Could be the rear crank seal, an engine block freeze plug or the transmission front seal. Could also be a leak from higher up trickling to where you see it.

meeting point sounds right. Its certainly not the oil sump. I'll really have to get the undertray thing off and give the area a damned good scrub. Mike.
