Update please: are your Kumho tires still good?

tire shop and mechanic keep dissing Kumho.Says I shouldnot be putting this cheap tire brand ,some even made in China,on a mercedes.
Plus kh11 not available in Canada, probably has to go across border to buy them.

First of all, you should have posted this in the Wheel & Tire forum.
Secondly, if your tire guy or mechanic don't sell this brand, do you expect them to say anything positive about it ?
Maybe the sister-inlaw of the uncle of his, had a bad experience with one.

I have Kumho tires on my Honda. After 30,000 miles I'm pleased with them. I went too long between rotations and had a funny noise in a front tire for about a week but it is OK now.

I was once a tire brand snob. Nothing but Michelin or Bridgestone for any of my cars.

Then, Michelin took advantage of my loyalty. Five sets of expensive tires, all bad. Warranty? Haahahaha. we're Michelin, so no manufacturing defects. Must be that you misused them.

So I switched to Bridgestone. Much better. Saved a few bucks and had better performance, better life, and much better construction and build quality. No more out-of-round tires.

Then, I heard from a few people that had used Kuhmo tires. Wassat? Huh? Needing snow tires for our cars, I checked into these tires. Good reviews. Lots of "word of mouth" in the positive.

Well, for about $70 each for the KW-11 snow, what did I have to lose? If I hated them, I wasn't out a ton of cashoolah.

After a winter with some very difficult and trying conditions, I am sold on these tires. They were so close to the performance of our Blizzaks it's startling when you consider they are half the price. The tires look good, have worn well, and were easy to balance for my shop. They run smooth and so far show no signs of following my Michelins into the dumpster with most of their tread remaining.

Based on this experience, I am more than willing to try their summer tires when spring is sprung.

I would change shops. Anyone that runs down someone else's product is unprofessional and obviously not thinking about your best interests. Whether it's true or not, it's the presentation of the information that turns me off.

Kuhmo tires, in my experience so far, are not "cheap" but indeed are inexpensive. There is a great difference. Remember, they don't have the enormous expense of the Bibendum ad campaign to support...

I've had Kumho KH11s on my W140 for over a year now... one of the best tires I've ever owned regardless of cost.

I find it kind of ironic, some of the cheap cars around here ( Kia, etc. ) seem to come with Michelin's.
Where is the logic /

I recently (last september) installed Kumho ecsta on my 93 400e (heavy car). So far I am very impressed. As quiet as the Michelins I had before and great handling. I believe they're made in S.Korea.

I still have to pinch myself to see if I'm dreaming. I bought a set of Kumho's for my 300E last year because I was financially strapped and they were so filthy cheap I had to give them a try. I figured they would at least hold enough air to get me back and forth to the office.

I do my own mounting and balancing and I was amazed when they required so little balance weight. I can run these tires to 100 MPH and they are absolutely as smooth as any Michelin or Continental that I've ever used.

They now have over 10,000 miles on them, and I have rotated them once. When I put them on the balancer, they were still within a few grams of perfect.

Every once in a while you find a product that defines the old "you get what you pay for" wives tale. In this case, I got WAY more than I paid for.

I hesitate to brag on them too much for fear of the Kumho people catching on and raising their prices.

I can't remember the exact model tire, but they are 195 65 15 SR rated high treadwear tires. I'm thinking AS 795, but that may be some other tire I put on one of the buggies around here.

Hope this helps,

I have had nothing but good luck with Kumho tires. THey are a little bit rougher/louder than the premium brands, but treadwear is good, and traction is outstanding. I replaced my pole position s03's with the kumho ecsta MX's, and they are absolutely fantastic. I have ordered another set. I use these on my FD RX-7tt, as I prefer a little softer tire on my benz, but for the money they cannot be beat. I don't have much experience with their more docile tires, but I know from a few friends that the 712's are also great tires.
