1987 560SEL factory alarm problem
as i have done hundreds of times, i left work and unlocked my car (1987 560SEL) at the drivers door. when i opened the door, the (factory) alarm went off. i thought that i might have opened the door before all door locks were up. so i closed the drivers door and tried to turn off the alarm. that did not work. after two alarm cycles it stopped. i locked the door and heard the locks engage, but the trunk lock didn't sound as if it locked. i removed the key, re-inserted and unlocked the car. i heard and watched all four door locks open and heard the trunk vacuum unlock. i opened the door and the alarm went off again. just that morning the front brake pad warning light came on, but its hard to think that there’s a link between the two .
i search for the alarm horn and the alarm system fuse but couldn’t find it. i ended up pulling the fuse (#15) but that also disables the SRS. i would like to fix this correctly but it is very difficult with that incessant honking going off in your ears, especially in the residential neighborhood i live in. has anyone had this problem or heard about this problem?? any way to find that darn horn?? |

Front brake pad warning light came on have not thing to do with alarm system, you may have a bad driver side door handle next time try unlock your vehicle from right side or trunk lock if do not go off again mostly is your door handle.

thanx for your reply MB Stars. i did forget to mention, that the passenger lock does not recieve the key. it goes in half way and thats it. its been that way for a couple of years. the trunk lock takes the key but doesn't allow me to turn the lock. its been that way since the summer. it hasn't been priority on the "to-do" list. i have used the driver's door exclusively (evidently) never really needing to use the passenger or trunk locks.

If that is not on your to-do list you can disconnect the alarm control unit at passenger side under carpet remove black plastic cover you will find a black box with two wiring connector on it is about 3x6 just unplug it.
