190 Eoverheating...thermostat?
Last night I drove home (highway for 10 minutes, then slower traffic10 min). Parking car I noticed temp way up around 100.
turned it off. top rad hose was hot, lower seemed cold or mildly warm. Could this be faulty thermostat or a clogged rad?or something else?

I thought if the top hose was warm you were ok, its when its not warm in a situation like that that you should worry about the thermostat. If the thermostat was locked closed your upper hose shouldn't be full of hot circulating coolant going to the radiator.

Temp at 100C is normal. That is the temperature at which the engineers at Mercedes have selected to allow the car to run at during slow traffic. The thermostat will not even be fully open until 102C. Do a search.

It was actually closer to the top (120)...definately too hot.

Yes, 120 is too hot. Start by diagnosing the problem. Was temperature normal until you were stopped in traffic? If so, then I would suggest you start by examining if it is an airflow problem. Are the fans fuctioning properly?

I believe all was ok until I was parking the car, then I noticed it was almostat 120.
I took it for a spin again yesterday, and it started to overheat again.The fan was running slowly until after 100, then it sped up considerably.I felt the top rad hose, it was hot, but the lower hose was still cold....leading me to believe that the T-stat is opening to let coolant out of the hot engine , but maybe not fully...in any case the coolant is not exiting the rad very much if any.I'll try doing a flush and swaping in a new T-stat.

These thermostats are designed to fail open. Odds are very high that replacing the thermostat for these symptoms will produce no change.
Have you yet checked the coolant temp? Have you checked the aux fan fuse? Have you hand spun the aux fan to see that it is free? Wait until the vehicle is cooled off before removing the radiator cap to check for adequate coolant. Good luck,

Flushed system, replaced T-stat and also the fan switch(was going off too late) and all seems to be ok.
