Hi,

Just finished 10 weeks of a 2 yrs auto tech program. I gave it major tune up (filters, sparks, compression, vacumn, pressure, etc). I just finished cleaning the fuel system and MIL came on. I retrieved the code manually from the X11 by push/hold the black button. I got 4 and 10 blink from the led. I got MB's DTC definition from AllData but it has 2 column. The first column has code 1-50, the second column start with 002-144. Which column should I use?

The problem I'm having is rough idling when the engine is warm, gas consumption and everything else seems/sound normal.

Ignition, ECT and IAT sensor checked out ok so far. Others sensors are in progress. I need some experty advice to pin point the problem. Please help.

Thank you

ps. where is the ECM located?

Sounds like your training could possibly have gotten you to the point where you are dangerous, but it usually takes quite a bit more than 10 weeks (bg).

The two code columns are for impulse testing versus HHT testing. The shorter column is the impulse column. When using a real scanner the single code of impulse is differentiated with more specific codes for the scanner.

The real problem probably won't be indicated by a code as that motors most common misfire is the plug end beneath the three coils

As SB said, the Flash code from the built-in LED is the short code flash. A HHT tester is required for the digital codes.

Also, With those codes and the idle problem, I would look at the plastic vac. line in front of the engine going to the Air Pump switch-over-valve. They commonly crack from heat and this will get a code 4 [AIR Pump]]along with a rough idle. May also bring up code 10 [AMM].
..and change the resistor boots as SB recommendation, regardless.....

Do a search on this site. There is a schematic floating around somewhere that shows how to make the reader for the other codes.

You were right Steve,

Some how 2/3 connector under the coil was wet with moisture or oil. I cleaned/dried them out and rough idle is gone. I resetted the MIL, it's staying off for the past 3 days.

Thank you,
