2004 E320 Wagon 4Matic Reliability

I'm considering purchasing a 2004 E320 Wagon 4Matic. How's this car's reliability, especially the 4Matic? Thanks.

I don't know if the 4-matic system used in the 2003-current W211 chassis cars is the same as that used in 1996-2002 W210 cars, but that system was very reliable.

I have heard, though, that the current E class cars are an electrical nightmare, as well as problems with the computer controlled braking system.

Mercedes recently anounced moves to greatly simplfy their cars. They have found that hundreds of the gadgets they have piled on are never used and simply add complexity and repair nightmares. Over 600 gadgets are going to be stripped out.

I would guess that 1 in 10,000 owners of W220 cars have read the 700 page COMAND manual, and that 1 person might be able to use all the gizmos in the car.

Peronally, I love the dynamics of the W211, save the hyper-sensitive and non-linear SBC brakes. But, I would be hesitant to buy one because of the incredible complexity.

I am glad that I am pleased with my current Mercedes, as it means I can wait to buy another one until AFTER those 600+ electrical items are ditched and the process of simplification has been done.
