Help With Inside Door Panel Removal -- 116
Time to replace driver's side window regulator. Have all door panel clips, and the screw at armrest romoved. The only thing seemingly holding the panel on is the inside door handle and trim. I have looked for a screw to loosen -- no such thing on this '80 SD. I do not want to strong-arm the trim off by prying unless that is the prescribed method.
Have tried "search" only to find how amazingly easy removing this panel is. Hasn't worked out all that simple, so far, for Mr. All Thumbs, and I know I'll break something if I follow my instincts. Any help, as always, is vastly apprecieted.

remove: door lock plunger (unscrew), door jamb chrome (2xflat head screws) arm rest screw, pry out black plastic behind inside door pull with small flathead screwdriver (carefully) remove chrome piece surround.
The screw for the armrest is accessed undeaneath, at an upward ~45 degree angle. It is a large brass phead screw. You cannot see it, only the hole. Door panel lifts up about an inche and then pulls away. good luck.

Turning Into A Nightmare
Okay, door panel is OFF. I have disconnected the window frame from the regulator, loosened all the nuts and bolts holding the motor, and all the ones holding the reg to the motor -- or have I?
I cannot get the upper shaft that holds the reg to the motor to come out of it's bushing. Took the snapring off two hours ago, and have used penetrant, elbow grease, and every cussword in my vast cussword vocabulary. All to no avail; that shaft seems to be frozen into the bushing. I need an idea and quick. Next question, while I'm on the subject: What is holding the motor from coming free? As I said, all nuts and bolts are off the motor, but something seems to be holding it on the doorcheck strap end of the door. Current status is that most of the bleeding in my knuckles has subsided, the aloe that I have slathered on my bites from the humongous red ants that made it up my pants leg is having the desired cooling effect, but my bp is just below stroke-level. HELP!

Norm Mality,
I strongly suggest beg borrow or stealing a copy of the 116 chassis manual if you don't see 3 holes cut with a hole saw in the upper right hand corner of the door. Considering the age of the car I assume someone has followed the template in the manual and cut the holes. Trying to change that regulator without those holes is a B****. Maybe someone here can scan a copy of the page.

Still Stumped
If anyone has the aforementioned template, I'd like to see it. I have a great hole saw, but need the size of the holes, and their relative positon. Until I have that info, I am stuck in Mercedes Hell, at night, without a paddle. Sorry to mix metaphors, but I have to laugh in order to keep from crying.
Would a Hayne's manual have that info?

Try going to www.w116.org and click on links where you will find an on-line copy of the w116 CD ROM service manual. It may be in there.

My scanner isn't that good. I tried. I doubt if you will find it in Haynes. You need the three holes to sepaeate the reg from motor.

Half Done...
Was able to hold the motor up to the door, and line-of-sight the holes. Only missed one slightly. Can't wait until morning when I get to do this all over again, backward.
Thanks for the tips.
