Rear suspension strut replacement help.
Hey everyone,
I have a 1987 190E 16V euro model. I need to replace some rear links on the rear end. Specifically the Pulling strut, Camber strut and the Pushing strut. I have never done something as advanced as this so I want to make sure I know what I am getting into. I have the shop manual (blue and white book) and it does not seem that I need to remove the rear disk or backing flange thing. Is that correct? Seems like it would be a lot easer to get to some of the bolts but not sure if it is worth the hassle? Is there anything that is under load that when I loosen something it will take my head off? Wife said she has no intention of cleaning up the mess. The dealer want to sell me new bolts part # 201-350-45-06. 1 set for each strut. Do these wear out? I saw in the manual that they use self locking bolts but can’t I use thread lock? According to the manual, I know I have to have the rear axle horizontal. Anything else I need to know about? Time is not to critical as I have a second car to get about in. Also, will I have to get the rear end realigned? Anything you guys can add would be great. Thanks David
