94 e320 Code 5 EGR Inoperative

I know this subject has been covered but, I can't get the SEARCH to work. I keep getting the "not enough words" reply.

When only Code 5 is indicated "EGR Inoperative," does it mean replace the egr valve or what else could be causing the EGR to be inoperative.

Two weeks ago, I had the Code 26 "Upshift delay switch over valve open or shorted." Could they be related? The "cost of ownership" devil was looking the other way because I only needed to replace the "U" shapped vacuum hose. And the 26 code hasn't returned.
