Are all 722.0 Kickdown Solenoids the same?

I have a broken wire.

I have a good solenoid from a 1978 722.0 that I want to use in a 1973 722.0

On the Flipside, is a Kickdown solenoid really neccessary, given the fact that my arm isn't broken and can move the gear selector my self?

Good Point!

After 19 years of ownership, I found out last year that my SL (with 722 transmission) had a kick down and that it did not work. After troubleshooting it, I found it was the solenoid that was the problem. Got one from Sun Valley dismantlers for $50.00. It now works fine.

But, other than testing it a couple of times, that's about it. Never actually NEED it
