1967 200 W110 Engine hose identification help

Hi, I have a 1967 200 (w110) pertol engine. When i bought it this hose was duct taped back together and its obvious that it needs replacement but i dont know what exactly it is. Any help would be great

Also to note: it seems that the point where it attaches to the engine and to the carbs isnt entirely inline as you can see by the jacked up angle, would it be better to use a different connection maybe something that isnt so conformed in its shape.

Hi mr110,

In my 71 250 this hose connects to my air filter. But, I have seen many variations of this throughout pic-n-pulls and always wondered about this.

I have seen some, totally blocked off (bolt screwed into tube to block it off), some attached to a hose that runs out through the bottom of the engine and terminates like some sort of make shift additonal exhaust, and some connected to the air filter?

FYI: mine is attached to my air filter- as the mercedes gods had intended (but I wonder sometimes if this polutes the air that my carbs use)?

This hose is used to pull fumes from your engine's crankcase into the engine where they are burned. As the engine wears some of the gasoline washes past your rings and into the oil where it then turns to vapor due to the heat of the engine. In the old days this was vented to the outside of the engine, but in the mid 60's laws were put into place mandating the hose you see here to suck off the fumes for burning.

There is, or should be, a small metal screen or brush looking thing in the hose or the pipe on the valve cover. This is a flame arrestor Mercedes installed to prevent trouble during a backfire.

I believe the part in question is a crankcase vent.

Any combustion gases that leak past the piston rings end up in the crankcase. These combustion gases exit through this vent and pass into the air box to be combusted again.

You don't want to block it off as too much pressure in the crankcase can cause other issues such as oil leaks.

Does any one know where i can source one? Mine is absolutely destroyed, i think because the angles arent lined up. It sort of zig-zags up to the air box..it can be seen because that is where the massive crack is. Can this be replaced with any other type of hose? or is it part specific.

Ron fabbed a replacement himself and there's a pic of it. If you want factory original it may not be available but a call to the classic center can confirm. A lot of those specialty rubber bits are very hard to find.

At the top of this page is a link to Pelican Parts. I did a quick search for a breather hose for your car and it appeared to still be available and it looked like yours for $6.50 I think? 1967 200 MB part number 121-094-02-91 perhaps.

meltedpanda,

Do you have a picture of your copper adapter you made? i think making my own would be a better option given that the only on broke due do some angle differences. I saw you picture of the PVC version but noticed that the next couple posts were you mentioning it had changed to a less degradable set up.

Nope. You are right on the money. If there is no vent for the crankcase gases all sorts of nasty things can go wrong.

I can remember early 50's Chevys had a downpipe that blew excess crankcase pressure to the outside down the side of the engine. They looked like steam cars going down the road since they were burning so much oil.
