distributor cap vent?

So I am noticing signs of moisture in my distro cap. Greening of the contacts and stuff.
Has anyone ever drilled a simple small hole in the top of their cap for venting?

That seems like it'd be more likely to cause, rather than resolve issues. Do you have an idea where the moisture is coming from? Ex: Is your crankcase breather plugged up, if you believe it's from combustion gasses?

I would consider a rubber ring gasket instead of drilling a hole. Is there much moisture and humidity in the Seattle air?

Some caps come with a 'vent hole' but it is really a check valve sort of thing that lets excess pressure out while keeping outside air outside.

The rubber gasket is a good first step in stopping this problem. Check to see if Mercedes sells one to make sure you get the exact fit. These things crack up over the years and some folks think you can get along with out them. Sometimes you can.

And sometimes you can't.

Sorry, that almost made me spit water on my keyboard...yes we have ALOT of moisture, not too much humidity though

Ill look into a gasket Idle...Perhaps I could just grab a sheet of make your own gasket and try that. That might create an unwanted gap with the dizzy and the connections inside...

n10:

If you will hold a small mirror under the bottom of the distributor housing, you will see at least one vent hole, perhaps two.
