abs light comes on for a minute then goes off every time i drive the car and in the first quarter of a mile.i know there are 3 sensors 2 in front 1 in back.my mechanic blew some air to clean them up nothing changed.it might be the voltage regulator, anybody had that problem?

A bad overvoltage protection relay will cause the ABS light to come on at random intervals because the voltage to the controller is going on and off.
If it comes on when you start, this is normal, but it should go off quickly. If it comes on and stays on for a while, then goes off, this indicates a fault in the ABS system. Don't know how to troublehoot this one yet, neither of mine has failed. Check your OVP relay -- if it is the old one with one fuse, replace it if you want, it's about $95 I think -- this will cure the trouble if it is the OVP. Peter

It could also be plain old low voltage especially since it is occurring in the morning - suggest you check your battery and charging system. If it was the OVP, I would think you would be seeing some injection and engine management problems as well.

i stand corrected.abs light comes on every time i start and drive.in mornings or evenings after work.i tested voltage drop when cranking does not drop less than 10.5 which is the abs limit.
charging system ok. that's why it drives me nuts. |

FWIW, I had a sort-of-similar situation. The first problem was the front sensors. The second contributor was alternator brushes on their last legs. The final turned out to be corrosion in the connection of the power lead to the ABS computer.
It was a lot of time and money to get a light to go off!

Somebody should mention you can snip the wires of the troublesome ABS braking system, and regular hydraulic brakes will work fine.
Am reminded of comment made by Donald Healey, founder of Austin Healey motorcars: "Good brakes do not make good driving habbits" - said Mr. Healey when somebody complained about the Austin Healey 3000, one of the fastest sports car of its time, having drum brakes on all four wheels. |

it's sounds tempting to snip the wires of the ABS, but this is not a wise solution.this is 2003 not 1960!
