Currently, if the car hasn't been driven in a few days and the system is filled with condensation, the car creates its own smoke screen on start up - smoke coming from all angles - inside the hood, all the way down the side of the car - and perhaps a little bit of exhaust fumes actually come out of the backbox.

Anyway, I called my local MB dealer, who quoted me approximately the value of the car for a new downpipe and exhaust system. Anyone have any better ideas for replacing an exhaust in western Canada (ideally Vancouver). Any experience with going to an exhaust place and getting them to fabricate one?

Thanks
I can get an exhaust system excluding the cat for about 100 euros over here - problem is shipping...

...there must be other solutions where you are though.

Still it sounds like perhaps you've got a bit of a blockage or a hole in the system as well.

Have you noticed coolant in the oil / a reducing coolant level? (M102 engines are not known for their long lasting head gaskets - could be a combined problem)
