W123 230e exhaust system

Hey folks,

I'm still trying to drag my W123 back into this millenium with the overdue maintenance it needs. Next on the list is a new exhaust system.

Currently, if the car hasn't been driven in a few days and the system is filled with condensation, the car creates its own smoke screen on start up - smoke coming from all angles - inside the hood, all the way down the side of the car - and perhaps a little bit of exhaust fumes actually come out of the backbox.

Anyway, I called my local MB dealer, who quoted me approximately the value of the car for a new downpipe and exhaust system. Anyone have any better ideas for replacing an exhaust in western Canada (ideally Vancouver). Any experience with going to an exhaust place and getting them to fabricate one?

Thanks

I can get an exhaust system excluding the cat for about 100 euros over here - problem is shipping...

...there must be other solutions where you are though.

Still it sounds like perhaps you've got a bit of a blockage or a hole in the system as well.

Have you noticed coolant in the oil / a reducing coolant level? (M102 engines are not known for their long lasting head gaskets - could be a combined problem)

That's the same quote I got for an exhaust system....more than the value of the car.

I did some research and decided to use aftermarket exhaust parts made by Bosal, and they've worked out well....for a complete revamp from front to back. Found an indy shop to put on the Bosal parts and fabricate pieces I didn't have. The key is to find an indy shop that will work with you.

BTW last time I responded to an exhaust question that I used Bosal parts, some Pelican member later posted that Bosal was crap. I'm no expert on exhaust parts, but you can either believe his words or the 10 years the Bosal parts have been on my car.
