I Flipped the switch today! (WVO Conversion)

I just got back from my first test run on waste vegetable oil.

I have been piecing it all together for about a month... and adding parts every off day. Finally I got the last piece in today, the pump. After bleeding all the air from the lines and flipping the switch that controls the 6-port pollak valve the car ran just like it was on diesel, but a bit smoother, and quieter at idle.

I am using a fresh water RV tank in the trunk as my tank, and HOH lines with steel 3/8" tubing (insulated), Permacool filter, Facet Pump, Pollak 6-port vavle.

It runs well.

The facet pump that I bought at napa did not work well at all! As a trial currently I am using one of those water transfer pumps you use with a drill, and a cordless drill to power it... What kind of pump should I get to replace this ?

Just thought I would let you guys in on the good news!

BTW- This project got started just under a year ago when I bought the car needing a new engine, see my thread on the engine swap HERE

SMOOTHER!!!!!! How is that possible? When you were here you could have balanced a dime on your engine. It's discustingly smooth for a 617.

Congratulations Sady, I am so happy for you (and the environment). Glad to hear that you liked the conversion. I am still piecing information together and I hope to do the same in the future. Congratulations!

As for picture I will try to get some up today... I start school tomorrow.

If anyone has specific questions, feel free to ask away.

Let me know when you want to make the switch. We'll get together with a few other members and have a WVO makeover party. I'd like to convert my 240.

Cheers,

Bill

Well I still lean to the Biodiesel direction........as I have three diesel vehicles. And 90% of my trips are 16 miles or less.

I have 5 restaurants that will give me their used oil in cubes...but I need to build a processor...adn thats the stickler....I have found no local mentors.

I do as well, but it co$ts....most of my trips never exceed 10-15 miles one way, most are 4-9 infact....so WVO wouldn't be too practical in the long run....especially when its cold out.

Yeah by the time the oil got hot enough I would be almost there...

Biodiesel doesn't suffer that fate.

Prefab processors cost $3,000 more than I can stomach....and haven't found sources for all the parts to home brew one....then there is the mentoring issues to get started...but with $3.20 a gallon prices and the fact I go through about 20 gallons a week thats a pretty good motivation to get moving.

Why go the bio route when you can just add RUG to WVO and get the same results?

I was going top set up a bio plant here but found that the by product [glycerin] is kinda tough to dispose of.

So far as I know there are no local mentors. But that could change.

Cheers,

Bill

I don't see how I can fit a suitable size tank under the hood of the car, that stinks, unless I moved the battery/washer tank elsewhere and mounted it right in that hole.....but I don't think I'd want to do that. Looks like I'd have to try for a trunk system....thats a big job though...and a lot more $$$.....

Sady,

What didn't work properly about the Facet Posi-Flo pump? I was going to buy one for my Vegtherm SVO setup.

How much did it cost you, too?

Thanks!
