Seamless for us (especially for you in MN) is somewhat relative since if we were to run WVO year-round it would have to be a 2 tank system requiring switching over once the temp. is built up.

Frybrid is another system that looks well though out. I'm sure there are others (probably even by some fellow forum members) but since I didn't go that route my research stopped.

Meh. Too much putzing around. Do these cars start in sub zero temps? Plus I don't want this in the back of my car.

Nah its a hobby, you have to really like messing with greasy crap. As far as winter, it turns to gell, unless you cut it with gas or something like that. Either way you have to babysit the system.

my story

I bought an 82 300sd PARTS car. It didn't have an engine or tranny. I bought a well used engine, used tranny, new radiator, a/c, every front end part, including radial arm bushings, new shocks, the list goes on and on. I converted it to wvo and am well satisfied. Before the conversion, I did my homework and made my decision on what was suitable for me. A year later and 30,000 miles, things are going very smooth. This forum has been very helpful and I appreciate the knowledge gained, as learning and sharing seems to be a key theme here. I haven't hacked up anything, all my work looks professional and I am not about to advertise myself. I am doing what I think is best for me. Every car that I have owned was better when I sold that when I bought. I'm sure that there scores of people just like me doing the very same thing. Bill

I take Hatterasguy's point to be that a considerable number of folks who dabble in running WVO don't know as much as they should about doing so successfully.

I'm still waiting for a partial list of the "considerable number of folks" who trashed a perfectly good W-123 or W-126.

In fact, I'm still waiting for the first example on that list.

When they have killed off the car, there's no reason they would come back and let anyone know.

Check out the rocket scientest in post #7 here:

Oil line blew - now heavy blue smoke on boost

I could be wrong, but I bet he crossed the fuel lines with the IP oil line.

There have been any number of 'em like this where they show up, waste everybodys time (quite often without mentioning the hacked fuel system), then they just dissappear. Sometimes the alt fuel guys try to help them out, but quite often they are nowhere to be found.

Personally, I have stopped trying to help any new users with fuel system problems because it has become a complete waste of time. I bet I'm not the only one.

I certainly agree that such individuals exist. However, I've never personally seen a "perfectly good W-123 or W-126" suffer from the lack of knowledge from those who wish to run WVO.

Naturally, if I'm going to conclude that "I hate this whole WVO thing" and I'm going to put up a separate thread on OD, I'd surely have personally seen at least a dozen of these things.

There are plenty of folks who successfully run WVO without issues.........it takes some knowledge and diligence.

Let me state once again, just for the record, that I don't have anything against alternative fuel. I do get annoyed at hacks of any kind, and I have stopped wasting my time on them.

I respect some of the guys who make alt fuel look easy, although they are probably outnumbered 20 to 1 by the wankers and hacks.

I would have to agree with that. The ones who are successful seem to be running the simplest system, i.e. few, if any modifications. The ones who can't make it work are almost invariably the kit kiddies and shadetree hacks.

What works is to make the fuel fit the car, not try to make the car fit the fuel.
