Simple is best

I have 2-3 years experience in this.

used industrial filters, bed sheets.......and the best filtering is through

old blue jeans pant legs.

I have a 55 gallon drum with an open top; 2 2x4's over the top;

and a 5 gallon soy sauce pail with an approx 7" hole cut out of the bottom sitting on the 2x4's

And pants leg tucked inside with the leg bottom twisted and tied hanging out of the hole. I collect in 5 gal pails and just pour 1 pail at time in to the filter.

I used to use a series of special filtering socks. I would filter down from coarser to finer mesh after each filtration. It would be a little more labor intensive but the end product could be even reused in a fryer, but I never did.

I've been running WVO for 5 years, and have experimented with several different filtration setups... from 5 gallon pails with filters hung between them to using a fridge compressor to draw vegoil through water filters into 40 gallon tanks.

The best thing you can do is let the oil settle

My current setup is much like this one, except I use two settling tanks:

Agreed. I let mine settle in a 55 gallon translucent plastic barrel for 2 weeks, then pump good stuff off the top (usually leaving 5-10 gallons junky oil and water on the bottom) into a 55 gal metal barrel, then heat up to 150F (with open bung hole for evaporation of water), allow to cool and settle one more week, then heat again to 120F, pump first 5 gallons off the bottom and discard, then filter the rest through a sequence of 25 micron restaurant cone filter, then 1 micron sock filter. This will take out the water and particulates. I have my heating barrel insulated for energy efficiency.

Now make sure you have a 2-tank system in your car that will heat the oil to 150F before it hits the injectors, and better yet, before it hits the lift pump and IP.

Good luck!

I use pillow cases ($1 each at the thrift store), then I mist wash the oil, drain junk off of the bottom, heat the oil, let it settle for a couple of weeks and then pump it through a series of GE whole house water filters
