Now, just think what the prechambers, injectors and areas arounds the valves look like...Forced Induction has some pictures of valve stems completely coated w/veggie poly.

So mix in some diesel at 10:1 ratio. BFD.

I think it'll do the trick
![]() I am already mixing it on 10% here, it's cold in Scotland and a bit of acetone as well for the fat. All good so far. Few bother as I was new and did few booboo but after all, 5000 + miles and going strong ![]() |

At what point, and in what part of a MB diesel engine,
is the fuel mixture heated to a controlled 250, 275, and 300 degree temp? It is my understanding that fuel is heated to at least 160 degrees before going into the cylinder, at which point it is compressed and reaches a temp. for in excess of 300 degrees. What does this have to do with the price of tomatoes anywhere? ![]()

Is that the same Olivier from Goat?? Unfortunately, You'll not get much support in here for veggy use in an MB (Apart from an enlightened few), as there are a few guys here who promote myths, legends, and rubbish, while never being able to back up their arguments with actual Facts that They Themselves have found/tested/determined The word, 'Sheep' comes to mind, mentioning No names.... ![]() (Wonder when Goat will be going again,--Currently Offline...) I use at least 30% diesel in summer.

I just wonder what happens long term in the combustion chamber and the exhaust valve stems, running veg oil. It's actually good info to see and good that someone actually did this, be it uncontrolled, or kitchen controlled.
I'm sure the IP gets quite warm, and based on the steel in them, and the lines, how much poly is forming in them?

The IP is on the side of the engine anyway to get heated for the diesel to flow freely, same with oil, this doesn't change the temperature of the IP.
There are few tale of pump failiure, I am not an expert on this, I just posted this PDF as this is really good info ( for me anyway) and liked other to have it as well. Kitchen style indeed but this is still style ![]() About the chamber and the valves, some have been reported to have 300.000 Kilometer on their mercedes and still going strong on SVO, this when the oil was cheap, about WVO, not sure. interesting, must be something about oil that has been used for cooking... or several cycles of heating and cooling causes the oil to change over it's life span in the deep fryer...or certain foods leave trace elements or interact with the oil in someway...
I notice there is no test with RUG. I have gotten lots of buildup visible in the fuel filler neck and lots of black specs clogging my inline filters...and I always mix with diesel and RUG but still get what I think is polymerization.

I've been running this blend for 37k miles on my 83, and 32k miles on the black 97. I found the 83 is fine with 5 micron filtering, but the 97 needs 1 micron

Greetings,
Great thread. I read as study done over a 50 yr time span by the petroleum industry on the effects of raw veg oil use in diesel engines. It was determined that Canola oil was the best for use both short and long term. Longterm use was defined as >850 hrs of operation and after extensive studies from 1942 to 1982 it was determined that a 30:70 ratio of diesel fuel to canola vegoil had ALL the properties of diesel fuel and could be run long term with NO negative effects on the engine. For my part I have 2 MB Diesels an '83 300 TD and a '95 300E Diesel. I have run BOTH with WVO from a french fry vendor in town and find FRY oil to be the best if running 100% wvo, but with my 30/70 split I have found the operation to be best even in cold canadian winter. The '83 has required fuel filter changes, but the 95 has been faultless so far requring nothing. I have been running them like this since august 08 with no conversions done and LOVE it! |

The stuff you're seeing in the filler-neck and tank/lines is the result of the FFA in the veggy oil, (FFA is the 'Free-Fatty-Acid' that veggy breaks down into when exposed to heat, lots of oxygen over time, --As in cooking!) You Cannot Filter out FFA. Its an oil, just like the WVO its dissolved in. It can however, be neutralised by Caustic washing the oil, But--If you are gonna do that, You might as well make BioDiesel, as you lose around 25% of the oil, and make a 'soap-stock' solution! The FFA reacts with certain Metal Coatings..... These metal-coatings are used by M.B. And some fuel-filter makers, namely Mahle and others.....Best use those filters that are Painted rather than bare shiny metal, as these don't seem to have that affected coating Any Moisture present in the WVO will become acidic, causing rusting and accelerated component wear....VERY important to test Every batch of WVO for moisture/water before allowing it anywhere near a fuel-tank! ![]() The 'waxy deposits' are a result of the FFA reacting with the coatings. It not actually a 'Polymerisation', rather the result of the chemical reaction between the FFA and the coating. It builds up reasonably evenly, effectively sealing off the surface of the coating from the FFA in the oil, and providing you Dont Use BioDiesel (!) will stay put--IF you use BioDiesel, the stuff turns Very dark brown or even black, goes sticky and sheds from the tank/filler surfaces and blocks everything!--Real PITA........ ![]() Guess this is why, Elsbett and other reputable vehicle modifiers recommend Only Fresh Unused Oil is used as fuel...... ![]() Olivier,-- I have no idea on the PDF, apart from hosting it somewhere etc..... ![]()
