Frybrid site is closing - save what you want/need

Frybrid site is closing.

FRYBRID SVO/WVO FORUM an open and public discussion of Vegetable Oil as a fuel

Copy and preserve whatever information you want before it is gone.

I found that to be the only WVO site that used scientific methodology to find answers to the challenges of burning WVO as fuel.

The Forum is now down. Many of the documents are still online at: Frybrid Vegetable Fuel Systems

I do not know how long the ".net" site will be up.

In my opinion....

The business model was not sustainable. It is hard to charge enough to make a profit on items that a DIY'r can make at home.
Most of the VO market is DIY'rs.
The demand for the product rose and fell with the pain of the cost of fuel.
The demand was also affected by the bad reputation of running VO caused by some bad operators. There are no barriers to entering the "business" of selling VO kits. Marketing trumps engineering on the internet and a lot of shysters came and went.

He seemed to be good at engineering and fabrication, but the business could not afford a customer service person to make sure that orders were shipped in a timely manner or refunds given when appropriate. So, that book keeping function is the ball that got dropped. Then, it doesn't take much for a one man operation to get behind if any problems occur in their personal life. When it isn't fun anymore, you just kind of wander off.

I liked the site because he was one of the few operators that took a scientific approach to the business of running a diesel vehicle on VO. There was a lot of good information on that site. The forum on that site had some of the best resource people around. If you had a problem, someone there had probably already solved it.

I feel bad for the people who did not get what they paid for.

The great demon of Oil Polymerization (the rationale for all aluminum or stainless VO contact surfaces) was present for me as chicken skin in the fuel tank, but no more than a nuisance otherwise for me, as far as I can tell. My 602 will I think be a 2 tank, although a friend of mine claims 5 years single tanking on his w/o adverse outcomes. Thanks GregMN, your 2 tank config rules.

I welcomed the empirical and well researched attitude of Chris, as well as his bright rays of bro-shine, and skillful wit.

This tended to change when the topic became 'you got my money, where is my stuff'. I assumed that my $150 order would be a reasonably similar to a $2000 order, and my experience with that kept me on a 'forum only' basis with Frybrid, which I greatly enjoyed and benefited from. Others may have trusted, to their apparent (although unverified by me) misfortune. Things catch up, one way or the other, I am told.

Thanks for the good times, all.
