Okay, I am sold! I think the biggest bennefit is the cleanliness of the Cascade. There is no odor as well. I was suprised that when I bought mine off eBay, this guy was the only one listing Cascade. Strange!

I'll have pictures next week!

THANKS bfisher! I have to give most of the credit to my friend. He is amazing at this type of work and he is a graphic artist by day! I skipped the resin application pictures! I need to give it final sanding tonight and drill a couple holes for the speaker wire. Then finish out the top and trunk floor so that it all disappears.

I am still working at it. A few more pictures for you all to see. I have not made a whole lot of progress but, at least it is forward! What you see is the sub enclosure in the spare tire well, power connection at battery and thru firewall, some signal and speaker wires where it enters the trunk and the sub enclosure cover which does not quite fit yet. I hope to have a lot more done on it by this weekend. Feel free to PM me for more details on my whole system design and install!

Thanks for your comments!

wow - very nice. You've put more work into your sub enclosure than I did! I just installed a 1/2" MDF board across the whole trunk floor (cut out around the wheel wells). I didn't build it into the spare tire enclosure like you did. Very nice - but a lot more work!

Thanks bfisher! The toughest part so far has been the top to the enclosure. I bet I spent over 4 hours trying to get it to fit! But, if i was a professional, it would not have taken so long. I just didn't want to screw it up! Check out this pic, I am almost done! The factory grills are just temporary. I found I will need to recess the subs about an 1/8" and will cut metal mesh to flush in and paint it all black. The next pictures you all will see is when it is completely done. The sub enclosure, that is. I still need to make the amp racks and trim panels!

More to come.....keep the comments coming!

looks good. what size are those subs? 8"

I have thought about doing this in my car s well, BUT...

I don;t want to give up my spare. I have had to use the spare 2 times since owning the car, and I feel for me it is better to have the spare...

Bfisher have you ever thought about using the rubberized undercoating spray to get into the nooks and crannies that dynamat cannot get into?

I have used it before on cars, and it worked well. especially when sealing up inside of doors and trunks where dynamat just does not go...

But drawback is the stuff stinks badly for a while before it goes away.

Not sure about MBNubee's setup, but with mine, I didn't lose the spare. The sub sits down in the middle of the spare (with room to spare! LOL).

As for the spray for sound dampening - I didn't do it for a couple reasons:
- my car was pretty quiet already and I think what i've done solves 85% of the potential noise.
- stink. I've heard this before and don't want to deal with it (I have clients in my car, etc)
- mess. I want to be able to work in the car without the mess of the spray stuff in my way.

thanks anyways - but I'm pretty happy as is! Only thing I might have changed is maybe (maybe) going up to a 12" sub. 10" sounds great, but would a 12 sound better? hehe - the joy of being a tinkerer...

Thanks guys! ashman- those are dual voice coil 10's. They are going to see around 400+ watts each! It should sound real good! bfisher - do you have any issues with time alignment or phasing? The HU I plan to get will have adjustments for all of that and should help the sound quality immensely.

If you guys want your car to stink for a while, do a project in fiberglass! It has been almost a month and the smell is finally going away. I just wrecked my daily driver last night so, the duties will fall upon the C240. Darn! I am upset I totalled my other car. There was nothing wrong with it and it had a killer sound system Well, it all just came out today! Anybody looking for some high end equipment?

Time to get back to work on my sub box! More pictures to come......

Time for more udates. Unfortunately, there is not much to show so far. The sub enclosure is done and the amp rack is made. I need to carpet it and attach the amps, capacitor and power distribution blocks to it yet. Much more work to go! I am happy the way the enclosure came out.
It looks better in person. The factory carpet cover scuffed up my paint. I will touch it up later.
