I have a Mercedes 1987 300D which has a Becker radio and an anti-theft device. If the Becker radio is removed the electronic will "lock-up" and make the radio inoperative. Unfortunately, this condition occurs when the battery goes dead. This winter my battery died and when I replaced it, the radio has "locked-up". Does anyone know how to resore the electronics in the Becker radio??

The 754 and 780 models don't have code numbers like the later models but go into code mode if improperly removed from the car. The same happens with the 754 if the car battery is disconnected, and the radios internal battery, holding the memory, has run out off power. The "theft mode service" includes a battery replacement and decoding.

Call becker

Your dealer has a code key to take the radio out of the "dashed line"(=====) mode (look familiar?). The real repair is to take the radio chassis out at send it to Becker to have the battery replaced, although one guy in the shop repaired his own one time with a trip to Radio Shack, could be a "MB Urban Legend", though. As a rule, we send them to Becker.......Gilly
