I have a 2000 C280 Sport Special Edition with a cellular phone (StarTac ST7760) built into the audio system. This phone, according to my service manager, has special software (don't know if the s/w is in the phone or the audio system) that only permits use of the ST7760 with the audio. I have a company phone (StarTac ST7800W) and don't need the MB-furnished phone and would like to use the company phone with the audio. (Going through my company to exchange phones, etc, etc. would require more time and patience than I have.) Does anyone know if, or how, my current company phone could be adapted tp the MB audio system?

No
No, the software is in the phone and unless you can figure out how to download the software (any Motorola technogeeks out there?), the plain vanilla Startac will not operate. I have tried to connect a Startac 7767 to both BMW and Mercedes built-in systems and all the phone will do is shut off immediately on connection. This is no doubt an effort to make us buy outrageously expensive handsets, but I have found no workaround.

Thanks. I got the same results. The 7767 phone came with the car but the company phone I have is a slightly better model. I'll try my cell phone carrier for answers.
