Rear door speaker grill removal in W124 wagon???
The original factory rear door speakers (located in armrest) in my 87 300TDT are getting crackly and in need of replacement. I've been told the speaker grills are very fragile and removal is tricky, and want to be sure not to break them while trying to remove them. What is the proper method for removal of these speaker grills???

Wait you have an 87 300TD and your door car speaker grills are still intact? This is amazing all in it's own! Let me see if I can find my speaker grills (my door cards are shot, speaker grills and speaker mounts are busted).
These are the perfect drop in replacement's for you car, they are Rainbow products. I just ordered these from this company, beautiful packaging but I haven't installed them yet. I only bought the front set because I am exploring options on what I should do on the back door cards since they are shot and I do not have replacement door cards at the moment. Front & Rear W124 speakers are 120mm unfortunately, and if you go to Crutchfield you get this message. X__X

You are right...other than my car, I have seen precious few 124 wagons with intact rear speaker grills. Other than a little scuffing of the paint, they are perfect and untouched. Since mine are so nice, I don't want to screw them up trying to get them off without knowing the proper technique. If you can post pictures of the back-side of the grills with the mounting tabs, I can probably figure out the right procedure. Also- any personal experience/tips you have would be greatly appreciated! J.G. |

If I remember correctly there is a phillips screw on the bottom and two plastic pins on the top. Unscrew the screw, pull bottom out very slightly and jiggle it up.

By the way, if you have a moment I'd love for you to shoot me an e-mail via iamfrankstallone[at]gmail.com and let me know how much of a difference the Stage 2 chip made on your 1999 E300TD for overall performance. |
