Radio powered up after ignition turned off

Greetings All,

Although this isn't a real big problem on my '86 300E but if it can be fixed, I'd like to do so. The radio use to shut off with the ignition switch as well as the antenna retraction. A few days back my wife shut down the car but the radio continued to play on. Still does, but you can power it off with the power switch. Where should I start looking in order to get the radio back in line with the ignition shut off. Is this a resettable type of thing or what? Any ideas or inputs would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Charles

Can you turn it off while the car is running or does it turn its self back on?

Greetings,

The only problem is that the power to the radio can't be shut off with the ignition being turned to the off position. I can turn on or off the radio any time using the radio power switch.

You may want to check if there is a radio relay that acts as a trigger switch for the radio, ant. and ignition power. If you can power the radio on and off I would say the radio is fine. The relay maybe built into the radio. Just a guess! I just figured out on my 300 that you can power the radio back up after the car has been turned off. I guess you don't have to have the key advanced in MB's

I've had this happen to me several times in my '94 E500. I have a short somewhere in my seat and if I push hard on the backrest like if you were to dig your wallet out of your back pocket, something shorts out and a fuse blows. In my car I think it is the #2 fuse maybe, I'd have to look.

When this fuse blows, my express down windows don't function (but they still work if you hold the switch), the cigar lighter doesn't work (radar detector shuts off) and the radio turns off. At this point you can turn the power back on to the radio and it will work but when you shut the car off it stays on and you have to manually turn it off!

So, long story short, check your fuses.
