Depends on lots of things..a 6 in can sound better than an 8 in. In fact in my home speakers I've got 6in subs. They play flat down to 16hz.
It also depends on what signal you're giving them. A weak amp will work better with a 6 than an 8. Go with whatever is easy to install, but go for good speakers, whether 6in or 8in. Remember, 90% of the sound quality is in the installation....just ask Michael (he's been installing his 500E for ummmm.... 2 months now?) Hi !
Please overlook the poor english I'm relativly new to Car Audio (1 years experience) And i've Listened to some 5 1/4" and 6 1/2" speakers. I'll bet you are upgrading from some lousy 4 inches , right ? Well , anyway, lets say the difference between 4" and 6 1/2" are 100% sound improvement. The 5 1/4" will then give you 80% improvement.. Get it ? The big gain is from 4" to 5 1/4.... This will only be if the 5 1/4 and 6 1/2" are 2-component systems or better... CoaSlip |

Yes! A 6 1/2" or 6 1/4" is much better. When using a component speaker set with a woofer to cover top-to-bottom frequencies, there is always a lag in the staging because no woofer can move as fast as a midrange (midwoofer)or a tweeter. When using a larger mid you reduce the time lag and improve the sound quality. A larger mid reduces the metallic sound found so often in 5 1/4" drivers. Check out the new "Perfect 1" 6 1/4" component set from Infinity. PK
