Possible to relocate the radio in the W210?

I was thinking about new radios lately and I had a wild idea about getting a unit with a screen that flips up. My only reservation about this is that the screen would cover the climate control and I would have to close it every time I wanted to make an adjustment.

Since the climate control and the radio are both held in the same way, would it be possible to swap them? That way, the radio screen would only cover the hazard button, the headrests and the door lock button.

Thanks.

yes, though the flip of screen on the single DIN would cover the vents. other
owners have posted this position change on mbworld. you may want to search
the AUDIO forum on this site as well

When I put my E420 instrument panel back together after replacing the evaporator, I accidentally swapped the stereo and the CCU. The CCU was much shallower, and fit into the stereo position just fine. The stereo did not fit as well, because the antenna connector hit in back. I think it clicked into position, but jut out a bit. The antenna connection was flaky even after I put them into their proper slots.

I think you'd have to compare the depth of your new unit to your original to make sure there is room. The wires will certainly reach, though.

You can also move the HVAC control to behind the bin door above the ash tray. Then you can install a double din in place of the current radio and HVAC locations.

They bought a double din trim piece. I think that you could modify the stock one if you have the right tools and skills. I have looked into this and have found that some head units come with a nice trim bezel that would hide any hack job looking work on the wood trim.
