Just bought a CD Changer for our E-Class. I didn't see any wires in the trunk. Where should I look for the wires? Passenger or driver side? Also, any tips I need prior to the install??? I appreciate all the help.
Best regards, Glenn |

Glenn:
The 3-wire electrical connector and fiber optics cabling are behind the trim on the left (drivers) side of the trunk. You need to remove the trunk trim totally on the left to access the stuff. Did you also buy the cd changer installation kit? You'll need that to install it. Depending on the particular changer you have, you may also need an adapter kit. The newest style changer is slightly narrower than the old ones, instead of making a new size bracket there is an adapter kit to make it fit. You will want to make sure the changer suspension is set to "V" (vertical), the new changers are all coming from the factory set to "H" (horizontal) for the new C class. The newer style changers are easy to identify by the 3 red plastic "wing nut" style transportation locks, the older style uses metal screws instead. It would be easier to help if I knew what style you have, but in general the installation of the CD changer only is pretty easy. Once the changer locks are removed, the suspension orientation is correct, and the changer attached to the bracket, the fiber optics cable and electrical connector are plugged in and the bracket screws down to the sheetmetal on the left side and trim reinstalled. You have to handle the fiber optics line very carefully, no sharp bends or kinks or you can ruin the optics cable, very expensive to replace, no repairs possible. Once it's installed, it may or may not work properly. There is some coding which the dealer has to go in with their diagnosis computer (SDS) and modify, so that the radio "knows" the CD changer is there. If the CD works after installation, that's fine, but this coding should be changed or problems could develop later. This isn't a difficult thing for the dealer to do. The dealer, especially if they sold you the car, may be willing to do this for free, it only takes 5 to 10 minutes to do. Hope this helps, I've done alot of these, let me know if you have any other questions. Gilly
