Unhappy car radio cassette player

I have a 1997 C180 Classic Euro version and the std radio cassette has a pretty crap sound with muffled bass and not too high treble. Wonder if I could change to 2 or 3way speakers in the doors and the rear deck without any metal damage or too much work? The side door speakers are very tiny, no wonder the sound is not great. What are their sizes? Are they different from the 1994 Elegance model which I also have one? I've seen the DIY fourm and think it will be difficult for me to do it myself. Can I use Sony or any other speakers and where are the holes situated in the frame and do they match after market speaker mountings? Will new speakers change the sound for the better or use new radio and old speakers to save money? Is Alpine a reliable set?
