W126 Interior Squeaks !!!
The interior of my recently acquired 85 380SE is incredibly squeaky and is driving me nuts! I have owned several W126s and none of them squeaked like this one. It squeaks even when I'm not hitting any road bumps. In all fairness, this vehicle was kept outside in the hot TX sun, so I suspect some warpage/shrinking of plastic has occurred.
Suspension is in top condition, and all motor mounts and shocks, trans, differential, and subframe mounts are new so I don't think the suspension is contributing. I really think the culprits are the interior plastic, vinyl, and leather. The worst offenders appear to be squeaks from all 4 door panels, along with what I suspect are "leather squeaks" from the seats. Does anyone out there have any success stories of actually fixing these annoying noises?

My W124 in comparison is 95% rattle and squeak free. Only the visors tend to squeak, and it is quickly remedied (albeit temporarily) by lowering and raising them. But this W126 is just crazy squeaky!

Try spraying the lower edges of the doors with silicone spray. A lot of the 126s squeeking comes from the doors.
If your visor has the pull out feature ( where the visor can be pulled to cover farther back when in the side position), pulling it out or in a fraction of an inch may rid the noise permanently.

mine was the same, silicone spray, light coat of vaseline or similar on door frame rubber will make an immediate improvement, particullary the gasket that contacts the kick plate on the door frame
Armor all does not last or work as well

Yeah it drives me nuts on the SD.
I am spoiled by the SDL, cloth interior means no squeaks! 303 the interor to death that will quite it down.

It seems any fix is temporary. The leather squeaks like crazy even with weekly coats of conditioner. Also the door panel lower edge where it rubs the door sill: I put strips of waterproof surgical tape there, which helped a lot. The noise is much worse when its cold out.

Quite a few posts point to the wood trim strips rubbing on the vinyl door panel where they fasten. One guy even removed them and used some kind of tape on the back of the wood then re-attached. I tried the same technique with grease, but it didn't last long.

The leather seats in the back of the SD are louder than the stereo.
Unbelievable squeaks come out of them. I sometimes think there is a convention of mice back there. Treating the seats quiets them down somewhat, but, the leather is quite stiff on the SD and it's almost impossible to eliminate it. The SDL, on the other hand, which I took out today for the first time in three months, is almost silent. I do agree with adding silicone to the line where the bottom of the doors meet the plastic on the door sill. It definitely helps that situation. I also agree that the wood trim strips on the doors will definitely squeak. I have not found a long term solution, either. However, I'm considering getting some very thin rubber (.032") and adding a piece between the wood and the door. |

my 86 420SEL doesn't squeak as much as it "rustles" like the seats are moving around and rubbing against something else, makes me nuts. It's at the dealer now, trying to diagnose a stumbling/stalling condition that I just can't eradicate, so noisy seats are the least of my worries.
