Hey,
I got a problem, you know the carpet layer that is under the hood? It's basically almost coming off, I want to know if I should just rip the thing off, because I cant seem to get the thing to stick back on. does anyone know what it is for anyway? Does it interfere with the engine if it is hanging down touching the engine when the hood is down? thanks |

Oasis100,
That is your hood pad, which is some sort of heat shield to protect your hood and probably paint from the intense heat of the engine. You can pull it off if it is hanging into the engine bay. As a matter of fact it is a fire hazard if it touches anything while you are driving. Do a search on the forum, as there were a few discussions about how to replace the hood pad. 87 W124 95 R129 98 W163 |

Its actually fire and heat resistant.
Depending on how much has found its way with gravity, it could be glued back with some strong auto-glue. You got to clean the surface with turpentine and clean all dust and grease before slapping on the thick auto grease. That ought to do if its not a major fall-back.
