Smile Peanut butter for door handles!

Some time ago a forum member recommended peanut butter for restoring grayed-out door handles. This morning I tried this out on a 92 300TE 4matic, and the results are simply amazing. The door handles look like new again. I am now a believer!

That is not surprising as most products that claim to do this kind of thing mostly contain replenishing oils. and peanut oil is pretty potent. The big question is, do your hands smell like peanut butter everytime you get in the car?

Today my Dad and I were washing our cars (his a 2000 G500 and mine a 1990 300te 4-matic) when he mentioned faded plastic. I remembered reading this post this morning and tried it and it worked like a charm. Thanks

Worked great for me too. Think I will try pure peanut oil next time, for ease of application if nothing else.

I read somewhere that it was a combination of the very mild abrasive of the peanut butter plus the oil. Peanut butter an jelly does not work. 8-)

peanut butter

i was pretty skeptical at first,we had just had the car detailed.my door handles are original and were looking pretty gray and faded-oxidized. i had nothing to loose.
the results were INCREDIBLE! they almost look new again.this trick worked so well i tried it on my black bumper rub strips.
PRESTO! awesome looking results
this is definetly worth the effort.

thanks for the tip!

Thumbs up

Unbelievable!!! The peanut butter worked great, than I ate it with a jelly sandwich. Door handles and side view mirror holders look brand spankin new!!! Instead of paying for something that doesn't doesn't work as well, use food!!!

Will this trick work for rubber parts as well. The black rubber parts of my bumpers could use a refreshening. Also like New2benz said, how long is this good for and what is the procedure. I once tried black shoes polish, but of course if you got to close it rubbed off on you.

I don't know about plastic parts, but it worked to renew (eliminate the graying on)the wiper arm covering quite well. I don't think I'd smear peanut butter on everything indiscriminately, but logically it really could do any harm to a bumper covering. All you need to do is smear it on and immediately wipe it off. I also, in an abundance of caution, washed down the area thoroughly thereafter. There is no remaining residue, no smell, just nicer looking handles, etc.

I felt sheepish when applying the peanut butter around the door handles. The dogs thought so too.

How did ya'll do?

OK now that I have rubbed peanut butter every where thats black, what the heck do I do about the squirrels that chase my car down the street and congregate all around whenever I stop!

The squirrels can be addressed by carrying some ammonia in a spray bottle and spraying them before they catch up to you. It is helpful to have an assistant for this. But some squirrels (especially those from AMG or Dinan) can actually keep up with any stock MB for more than a mile.
