Need to remove tiny white paint specs...

I have about 75 tiny white paint specs stuck to the hood of my (otherwise) black MB.

I got some of to pop off, but others are really stuck. It appears to be latex paint - looks like someone popped open a paint can or drove past a construction site. Tried polishing compound and various cleaners, bug and tar remover, etc. I can take them off with my finger nail one at a time, but it's really time consuming, they don't budge on the first "pick".

Any help is appreciated.

Use clay to remove it; be sure to use a proper lubricant to keep the clay moving

I tried clay, it goes right over them. I used Meguire's quick clay with the lube they give you (that detailing spray)

Is there a different clay that might work better?

I had the same problem and used my finger nail and also used a soft piece of wood, end of a brush that had a sharp edge. I had to rub out small surface scratches after, then wax. Turned out fine, 1988 black 560 SEL

There are indeed different grades of clay; however, that type is usually only available at a body shop. Clay Magic makes 3 grades, for example.

I'd suggest you solicit the opinion of a reputable body shop before you get too aggressive.

i've delt with this after running over a freshly painted white line on the highway.

One way is to wax the entire area so the paint is protected, then apply wax and tar remover. Take a razor blade and knock off the two corners so you have a very sharp blade with rounded corners, this stops them from digging in.

You'll be surprised how well this works but go slowly and keep a very low angle with the blade.

Depending on the paint that got on you car, sometimes it will eat in, you might have to wet sand the area with ultra fine 3M sand paper, it actually doesn't feel like sand paper at all but using a rubber block and plenty of water soon the finish will be smooth but have a dull look.

Polishing at this point can be done by hand but an electric buffer with a foam pad would be quicker. I always use a very fine compond, I rather go over it many times then use a coarser one and have to deal with swirl marks.

Apply wax and then you'll want to re-do the whole car and make it look as good as the hood

Tox!

Old credit card held short side down with thumb and middle finger on long sides. Use index finger on top, near edge of short side and and "chisel" at acute angle to paint flecks. Latex paint should pop off. ( old plexiglass aquarium trick). FWIW
