Most scratches and swirls can't be taken out by hand unless they are very minor. Very minor means you can't see them with a magnifing class. I would take it to a professional detailed who is skilled with a high speed buffer. Those guys can really work some magic.

Step one, throw out the rubbing compound....

Step two, get some meguiars #9 swirl mark remover or even "fine cut". Apply the #9 or fine cut (then reapply #9 post fine cut application/removal) with a terry covered sponge after the surface has freshly been washed/dryed. Remove it with a 100% cotton terry. Repeat as needed only on affected area. Once you have it gone (or noticeably reduced) you can polish it with Meguiars "show car glaze" #7 (brown bottle). Then to further clean up the view use Gold Class liquid wax.

Of course, if at any time you feel this may be more than you want to deal with....take it to a professional.

Give the above a try and let us know how it turns out....

Hope this helps,
Lee

Whats the difference between Meguiars #9 swirl mark remover and their scratch X remover, are you talking about the same thing. Also to anyone who has used the Meguiars scratch X remover, how well does it work?

Some of the meguiars products overlap (quick detailer spray in either of its incarnations for instance) in part or full. However, I have years of positive experience with the #9. I've not used the scratch X as much. Maybe someone else can chime in with more recent use/feedback on it?

Hope this helps,
Lee
