Removing the Speedometer

Hi, trying to fix a humming noise coming behind the speedometer. I don't know if removing the speedometer
and looking behind it will solve anything, but have to try.
Anyway, anything I should be looking for before removing
it? Should I remove the speedo cable from behind the speedometer or from the tranny? If I do remove it from the
tranny do I need to get the car in the air? If removing from
behind the speedometer do I need a special tools?

The humming noise could be coming from the speedo itsself. Be sure to make the correct diagnosis.

You will need to take loose the cable from the tranny first then pull the cluster.

how to diagnosis the correct problem? If it is the speedometer itself what should I do?
