Paint Chip Starting to Rust
I have a small chip on the right rear wheel well that is starting to rust.
I have touch-up paint that I want to cover it up with. What is the best way to remove the rust and apply the touch-up paint? Thanks in advance. P.S. The chip size is a little less than 1/8". |

Autobody supply stores have little abrasive pens that you can get into small areas with, to prep for painting, and they will clean out light rust. Don't know how much they are as all I do is pay the bills.

If it's just surface rust your best will be to sand it as someone mentioned earlier. If the rust is deeper 3M makes a product that will convert rust into a protective barrier before painting. The only problem is that the surface isn't perfectly smooth and you won't get a good finish after touching up.

You could also appy a bit of rust remover gel or phosphoric acid with a q tip, then rinse thoroughly, dry, and touch up.
