I officially give 210's 2 thumbs up! Yes you have to be aware of the spring perch issue, especially on E300's and E420's, seem to happen to those models the most, but pretty rare and doesn't seem like being in the RustBelt has anything to do with it. With 190's it DOES, not 210's though. One of them I saw had just came from California (owner was insane and moved to Wisconsin, or maybe they were originally from around here, I can't remember) and was still on the carhauler and had happened on the way here, so maybe this particular car couldn't take the stress of been chained down to the hauler.
Also especially on these same 2 models I have seen the front wheel bearings seize and actually weld sections of themselves to the spindle, which of course required a whole new steering knuckle.

E300D Check engine light

My Check engine light came on last night the dash display says it is electrical. Should I worry? The engine seems to be running smooth. I just got the car. What is the best tool to use to diagnose the problem. I also just had the battery replaced the same day by a dealer. I couldn't find the security code, but the dealer got that working also. Is there a dealer master key code they use or should it be written down somewhere in my manuals? Thanks!... Indy

Have the dealer pull the codes, and see what they come up with.

This is called called "hijacking a thread". You should really start your own thread instead of just tacking on to the end of someone elses, you'll get better responses that way. Are you referring to the radio code when you say "dealer master key code"?

I am New to this car a proud 1 day owner. I Couldn't find the "new thread" tab b4 so I tagged on here(General Questions) I Think the dealer must have access to the codes using the VIN. I will have to contact the dealer that put in my new batree Thanks!... Indy

Thanks for your info Gilly. Your reassurance helped me buy a 99 e300td yesterday. It cost 27k. The car is in perfect condition. I gave it to my wife. She seems very hapy. BTW it has a burnt out bulb on the inside right tail light. I read somthing here on the forum about that but I cant find it. Is there any issues with lights?

Nice car! What color is it? Judgeing by the price I'm guessing around 50k on the clock?

Close! 64k. It came with a factory installed gps system and an extra set of alloy MB rims with new snow tires. Plus no shipping charges! Knowing the original owner made the deal much less stressfull.

Nice I really like the 98-99 E300D's, they have a lot of power get great mileage and are simple to fix. (most things are) They also hold their value!

Early W210s had some issues with lights, but that shouldn't affect yours. Don't worry about it. Just replace it with the same type european spec bulb. I usually find them at the bottom of the display in the packages with the green backing.

Maybe you know this, but there is a fog light on the left side that doesn't have a matching one on the right. It is in red portion on the trunk and is illuminated when you pull the light switch out two clicks. The orange indicator next to the switch lights when it is on.

If by GPS you mean that the car has the command option, then it is pretty rare. That's the thing where the computer screen in the center of the dash controls the radio, phone, air conditioning, and navigation. There were multiple delays releasing it and it was an extremely expensive option. If I remember correctly it was released very late in the 99 model year so yours would have been one of the last to arrive here.

I ordered mine in April of 99 and picked it up on June 7th.

Its not the command option based on your info. It's a small gps console unit mounted high on the dash. It was installed at the dealership. It has the MB logo on it. I might be wrong but it may have a single cd drive for the gps mounted in the trunk just under the speakers. I'm purely guessing. There is a 6 disk changer in the trunk (lower left) for the audio. My problem is that I need to crack open the manuals on this sucker and learn a few things.... That being said, does anyone know how to update the maps on these gps units? I'll look around the forums too.

I remember seeing an E300 on eBay with that. The unit looks exactly like a Garmin StreetPilot III but with the Mercedes-Benz silk screened onto the bottom...

The unit probably has a memory card for the map information...

I am guessing Rick is correct in his assumption that the tail light may be a non-problem. If you are talking about a light that would be mounted on the actual "decklid" then you are seeing the rear fog, which there is only 1 of, on the left rear, making it look like maybe you have a burned out right rear.
But there are some issues with the bulb "plates" for the tail lights. Usually a new plate fixes it.
On the GPS, usually a new disc is what updates the map. I'd be interested in seeing a picture of the head unit.

It looks like a standard gps unit of the era but it has a nice MB logo on bootup and it makes no mention of garmin or magellan (ect..). I'll post pic.

When you say "disk" are you refering to a cd perhaps?

I still haven't checked the tail light issue any further. I'll do that tomorrow.
