I paid $1.98 a gallon last Sunday and $2.15 on Monday so lets say:
$1.98x20=$39.60
$2.15x20=$43.00
So a $3.40 increase in a week, not going to affect my driving but it is starting to bother me. The lowest I ever paid for diesel was $1.78
$1.78x20=$35.60

Lets put this in persepective it is an extra $7.40 a week it is not that big of a deal, just annoying.

We live in a new world oil prices will continue to go up, they will never come back down. I'll be happy if they stay around $2.

I was in Madison today and it was actually higher than premium! I have seen diesel go higher than regular in the past, then it goes back down. Prices seem to move more slowly than gas but do often catch up, pass, then go back down below the gas prices. Let's hope the latter happens soon

In regards to the comment on gas prices and the current administration....I guess the people saying the only reason we were in Iraq was to steal all thier oil were wrong or else we're just moving it home a lot slower than anticipated

Here in Canada, it would be $70. Diesel is usually far cheaper here than gasoline, but this time of year we have that same HHO thing happening as in the U.S. Still though, I'm seeing wild variations - along the same boulevard, Diesel price today is ranging from $0.78 / litre to $0.94 / litre (roughly $3.12 / USgal. to $3.76 USgal.). It seems that the cheaper places are where it is pumped by companies such as supermarkets that do not retail home heating oil.

I think Canadians are more on the Diesel bandwagon- I don't have statistics, but I do notice the majority of newer Golfs and Jettas that fly by me on the highway are TDI's. Also, I would say that the light truck market would be about 50/50. Unfortunately, although our fuel prices are about the same as in Europe, we do not benefit from the wide range of Diesel vehicles available overseas- pretty much just the VW's, Powerstrokes, Dodge Cummins and the newest cars from MB / Smart. Other Euro car companies should take a close look at VW Canada's marketing. Would love to see some Peugots, Rovers, Citroens, etc. on our roads!

Christmas tax, everything is delivered by diesel. Everything is manufactured overseas and sheltered from taxes. Those in position to do so get a cut by charging for the diesel.

Paid $2.19/gal, over $30 for a fillup. That was in Maine, now in Vermont. Close to the same, a little cheaper.

Hmmm, biodiesel is becoming a very attractive option

I may be thinking wrong on this but I have noticed that places such as Europe and South America that have much higher public fuel prices also have extensive public transportation. I would like, sometime, to hear from someone in these areas that might know if the higher fuel prices help sustain their public transportation.

Also, if someone thinks a political administration controls fuel prices then the government has way too much "control". A little bizarre thinking IMO.

However, I do think we should promote biodiesel and other alternatives. Competition and options have always been good for the economy.

Diesel is not a by-product of gasoline. Go here:
Oil Refining

The current increase in the cost of diesel motor fuel is primarily caused by these two 'supply and demand' issues: 1) seasonal increase of home heating fuel reserves and 2) military use of diesel.

You are right the Iraq oil is moving slower than "anticipated", as the insurgents are sabotaging the pipelines as fast as they can be repaired. On the other hand, high oil prices are good for the oil companies - you see, the demand for fuel for transportation and heating is very inflexible.

And you will see vegetable oil prices rise with petroleum - it takes oil to make oil. But I agree, domestic renewable fuel will help our economy and our security.

ENRON RULES!!!!
Blame it on the trouble makers in places liek Nigeria, and the obvious Middle eastern area, and Putins trying to grab te Russian oil industry.

Anyone in THIS country is the last place blame should be directed. Except for the people who STILL are against any new drilling in this country. Those guys can share the blame.

here here! rickjordan.its seems alot of our security concerns these days hinge around the supply of oil.but no government has found the means to encourage the use of alternate fuels that could be produced right here in north america.instead we the rely on the old shotgun diplomacy technique.

The news did say that part of the reason the price of fuel went up, is because one or several oil rigs in the Gulf got damaged by Ivan. The port(s) that are nearby (Panhandle of Fl) received some damage also.

Also, I heard today, that conoco bought some or all of a Russian oil company. Don't know the spelling, but it sounds like "Luke".

And yes, home heating oil usually drives the price up in the fall. Lets hope the winter is mild, and we have leftovers in the spring.

I bought diesel yesterday in Atlanta for $1.94 a gallon; 93-octane gasoline was $1.95! (And I bet that sounds cheap to a lot of you...)

Buy now save for tomorrow

Do not wait until next week to fill up, If you can buy and store it would be even better. The prices of all fuels are going to skyrocket when the $50/barrel price is reflected at the pump. There is always a lag.
