The last time I looked it was only 1.65 and the cheapest fuel on the market..I realize there are always market fluctuations that come and go, but for this one, I can find nothing in the economic forecasts that explains it...I hope this isnt a long term thing...maybe it is time to go biodiesel or veg oil,,

Have you been in a coma for a couple of months, or what? It's been rising steadily since the middle of July!
No it did not, it jumped and heaved from a 1.60 to 1.72 to 1.85 and didnt rise steadily, I have my vehicle log book to prove it. |

whoops
OK, it jumped and heaved from $1.60 in the middle of July (or possibly earlier) to the current price of $2.00. But, whatever it did, it did not happen overnight, LOL.

Carrameow.
That's nothing, I have seen a gasstation here in Bergen county where they were asking $2.99/gallon. And the station is supposed have bargain prices. Gasstation STS. Most gasstations here on average sell diesel for $1.95/gallon. Where I go it's $1.92/gallon right now, used to be $1.65/gallon 2 months ago. Louis. |

There's more diesel than gasoline in most crude oils, but I'm not sure why the price lagged so much.
The current run-up is a result of home heating oil inventory accumulation, I'm sure -- more fuel gets used heating homes in the Northeast than is used to power trucks in the winter, I believe. I'd not park the diesel for a gasser unless the gasser gets better milage (mine don't!), and gasoline is about the same price here anyway -- or more, they both require premium. Peter

if all you are parking your diesels than it's better for people like me that will keep using the diesel. Less demand = lower prices

I don't get why it's suddenly more expensive than regular gas. Diesel was almost always cheaper or about what mid grade unleaded was, not it's more than premium? That just does not click. And I don't buy that winter heating fuel demand crap, if you have plenty of demand, know you'll sell all you can make, are not haveing drastic shortages, you should be able to sell it pretty cheap, no worries of excess, it's already a captive market, etc, etc. Maybe I just have no head for business..
When I was 17 years old I drove a 78 Lincoln Continintal with a 460 that got 12mpg, I paid 78 cents a gallon for regular unleaded.

Ah, but cude oil inventories are much lower than they were in the 1970s, and Hurrican Ivan held up quite a bit of oil delievery from oil drilling AND shipping in the Gulf -- remember, it's not possible to get a SuperTanker withing 100 miles of the coast in the US in all but one port (Bar Harbor, Maine, I seem to remember). They are all unloaded in the Gulf.
It's "watch the oil companies get filthy rich" time, boys. Welcome to the NeoRobber Baron age. It's gonna get a LOT more painfull, and will never get better than it was a couple years ago. I drove a 1962 Olds Dynamic 88 when I was 17, got 4-6 mpg, gas was $0.20 a gallon, and minumum wage was $1.25. Peter

here in england we are paying £4.00 a gallon for petrol diesel is even more expensive.that s why our cars are doing 50/60 to the gallon .it will only get worse .my 2.0 litre e200 is considered a gas guzzler! ,the range rover factory was attacked by enviromentalists who considered the 4.0 liter engine a cause of world global warming.£ 1000.000 of damage caused.

We could also produce 50-60 mpg diesels but instead our government is pushing gas/electric cars. We've had the technology to produce effecient diesels for years but have never done so. Enviromentalists are partly to blame for our high fuel prices here. during the Clinton administration there was a push to build more refineries. Clinton sided with the tree huggers and no refineries were built. Now we cannot keep up with demand. Cheers, Bill |
