I feel that way at 49 and hope I will until I go to my grave. As to any relationship between age and MB diesel, rather newly acquired direction for a hobby. Used to enjoy wrenching on certain vehicles and never touched a diesel. I needed another passion in my life and decided this would be it.

I'm getting older and your getting older,too... You know you can't always get what you want, but I try. Anyways, I wanna rock and roll all night, and party everyday. Where you at Rock, where you at?
Although the stores are all closed she can get what she wants- she's buying a.... another MB diesel?

An 'older' here for sure. Been driving MB Diesels ever since 1965 with a small break between 1990 and 2002. Each one has been better than the previous one, and what was learned on the first (in German) is generally translatable to helping on the next. The door lock knob from the '61 is identical to the one on the '83, and maybe a few other small items!! Really appreciated the step up to disk brakes from the '61 to the '68.

One very important thing for you kids to note: A Merc is a Mercury, not a Mercedes. Live it, learn it, know it!
Benz would I guess be acceptable.

**edit** by the way, since alot of you young guys are my sons age, I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed this thread. I'm sure my fellow 'olds' can relate.

Heck, even the DMV here in okieland and the State Farm folks shorten it down to Merc. And I don't like it at all!!! Besides most domestic manufactured Mercs are pseudo iron ore in less than 20yrs.

I too am grateful for the people on this board sharing their knowledge of these cars. It sure makes life easier.

There is an amazing amount of talent on this board too. ASE certified Masters are few and far between on other car forums. We have the lions share here. And a bunch of our members are damn good mechanics that have their careers in other fields.

And we all ask questions and we all learn.

Just turned 50 last week. The only thing worse than having birthdays is not having them.

How true and it still bug's me. I think it was started by the guys down under.

But a Merc was US slang long before,(50+ yr's) and will always be a Mercury.

I always thought a Merc was a Mercury and MB or MBZ Mercedes. When first joining the Merc thing threw me off a bit...

Cheers,

Bill

Thumbs up Old??? who me?

I was 3 days old when dirt was invented. I will be 49 on Christmas Eve. I grew up in the hippie days, or daze. The youth of this forum MUST be commended. As I see it most people under 25 are into rice cars or pseudo muscle cars. Muscle cars have not existed since 1972. For a young person to enjoys the older MB body speaks volums. The aerodynamice of pre 1985 MB's is like that of a cinder (concrete) block. But, that's what I like. The bigger the grill, the better. It seems we all appreciate the quality that went into these cars.

I'm still thinking.

I like the way Merc sounds, Benz sounds like something a rapper would say.

I got it from the British car mags I read.
