115 subframe crack

I've got the traditional crack in the subframe at the drivers side rear tab for lower control arm mount. Only, somebody didn't tell it that its not supposed to crack in the 115. I suppose after 400,000 miles anything can happen.

So, I don't suppose Mercedes will compensate me for anything but that doesn't mean I wont ask. Now that I've replaced ALL front end components, will the lower control arm have to be removed to weld the crack and put the gussets in?

I really hope not, I JUST replaced all the stuff.

Hey Joshhol,

Send a picture if you can so I will know what to look for when I get under mine. If it needs welding I can do it while I'm there.(Still have not found the time to finish the pass. sub frame and the control arm bushings)
If I see an easy way to fix it without taking everything apart I will yell.

Did you get the steering box sealed back up?
The reason I mentioned getting one from the junkyard before is I thought a leaking box was unusual, I have not noticed any of mine staying wet, I assumed the odds were good you would find a good one. Of course now you know what you have.
Thanks,
Brian

I'm unable at this second to submit a pic but they all crack in the same place. Supposedly at the tab where the mount is for the lower control arm on the drivers side, rearward mount. Normally only on the 107 chassis. Mercedes would replace these for free on 107's but I doubt I'll get anything from them.

CTH350 said possibly to replace the subframe. I will definitely try welding it. Actually my indie will do it as he has done very many in the past. Said his best time swapping a subframe mount on a 107 was under 3hrs.

I turned over the steering box and pump to him to reseal. The box looked tricky. The pump, easy, though there has been difficulty getting the correct seals so I'm kind of glad he is taking care of it.

I don't know if the box was leaking, it could have been the hoses. I guess anything will leak after long enough and seemed good to do it while it was out.

Best of luck with yours. Submit a pic of your 115 and I'll try to get one up of mine.

NC, I can email you a pic if you are interested. The resolution will be better than posting a pic anyway.
