Picked up an 83 300D for $200 :)

Got an 83 D for $200...runs and drives great!
ALDA is maxed, pyrometer is installed, as is custom intake. Screw the one on ebay for $150, I have $30 into mine. 240D catch can is in use also. Im in the process of installing a boost gauge and upping the boost to 13.5psi. Then comes the propane
Who says a 300D cant be fast? The KKK wastegate is a piece of cake to adjust.
This thing was $200 and its a joy to work on and drive, but man what a mess with the vacuum system!

Does anyone have any advice on how to tackle shimming the ALDA for even more fuel? I'm sure it can use more once the boost is increased... EGTs are a steady 800F and I havent even touched the exhaust!

no, not by trade..it's always been a hobby of mine..I'm 21 and have been wrenching since I bought my first car at the ripe old age of 15....I've owned a ton of vehicles and have encountered problems with almost all of them...lol
I have a bad habit..I cant keep anything stock! I'm new to diesels but have been researching them for awhile....I like taking something slow and making it fast..I stumbled upon the 300D on accident...my dream rig is a 96-98.4 Dodge 2500 Cummins 5sp 4wd
we can all dream cant we??
I'm an Automation Technician by trade...been doing it for about 2.5 years now...other rigs in my stable include a 98' Grand Prix GTP (Supercharged and of course modified) and an 84 Bronco (wheelin' truck)

welcome to the forum.
My family lives in the boyne/gaylord area and i spent alot of time driving around the state in the SDL.
we drive up somewhat often from the cleveland area. on trips like that the SDL really shines. other than bathroom brakes there is no reason to stop and once you get north of grayling the traffic thins out. i really love driving early morning 3/4am running about 85-90 with the fogs/brites on with the road all to myself.

Nice buy.
Im pretty much the same mindset on the working on the SDL. but its not in the budget right now.
on the exhaust. you should just run a strait pipe. or throw a flowmaster on to lower the pulses as you have no turbo.
id vote for the strait pipe and run her up to bay harbor and piss off the snooty folk while you leave their sabbs a smoke screen.

Welcome, Would love to see pictures. If it's running that's a huge plus. Now you can really put your mind and skills to work. Your young and I think it's great that you can work and learn from the MB's Diesel

Cool....my 300D is turbocharged though....I'm having a local exhaust guy put 3 inch all the way from the downpipe back.......no muffler just raw unfiltered diesel smoke...if i do go upto bay harbor I will disconnect the boost sensing line to the ALDA and leave gobs of black smoke for them to chew on...I'm told im not suppose to race a black debadged S600 thats up there...renntech'd and all..definatly not a good race for the D

One of my friends works for the local mercedes dealership here in TC and is the source for most of my information...

I had a job checking on filling stations that took me from gaylord to bad axe to midland and i got to drive alot of the back roads. I always stopped when i saw another MB for sale and despite the tons of rust they were asking ungodly prices for the things. im supprised you did alright. well i guess merry early christmas.
One thing i always found amusing was the stares i would get as i rolled up to one of the stores i had to visit and i would leave it idle (lock with 2nd key).
most of the fudgeies heading north would give the SDl a sideways glance as if they expected to see a stream of oil and antifreeze flowing out from under the "noisy" car. it was pretty funny to over hear one guy say to his buddy. as they got out of their beat up monte carlo and swagered by the front of the benz. "Man that dont sound good".
well. i did have a slight injector knock at the time but still i would have thought more people might know diesel/gas sounds.

There was a battleship grey W126 sleeper funny car around Pinconning, Michigan, last I heard, it cranked out low 6 in the quarter mile, and he drove it on the street.

Um... you're talkin' 220+mph trap speeds or so... Why on earth would you want to drive that on the street?

Another Michigan Forum Member

Just wanted to chime in and note that I also reside in that state with no winter sun. My 240D travels sixty miles a day on I-75. Mine will be the pastel grey '77 in the right lane between the trucks. Look me up if there is a request you may have for a forum member in Mid-Michigan.

Some people have a need for speed, like an addiction.
What was the signiture line I saw here; "tell me how fast you want to go, and I will tell you how much it will cost".

It's great to see that I'm not the only one up here in the great white north.I live just east of Gaylord in Johannesburg.I've been playing with a 240d and 300dt for a couple of years and I enjoy them. I'm currently restoring the 240d
and when the shell is complete I'll be working on the engine so as it can run on waste veggie oil. I'll have to look you up for some finetuning of the engine when I convert.
