Well, had duty on sunday, and when I went out to start my 69 220 D (left on the street sadly), it was about 10 - 12* with it being max 0* with wind chill. Figured this would be the true test of the beast..............

Glow plugs...........I have never replaced them, and I have had the car for 4 years. The car sat for 2.5 years before I got it, and sat another 1.5 years prior to November (due to being out to sea). Had the injectors rebuilt last spring, and battery is about 1 1/2 years old, and no block heater.

Had to do 4 cycles, but when it started, sounded like it normally does every other morning.

Was pretty happy, although can't take the chance of being stuck at work 35 miles from home, so will drive the Tahoe if it is going to be less than 20 on my duty day.

Man I wish you would hide that Chesapeake location shipmate, makes me wish I was back in the real world and not here 150 miles from no where.

Heck I even miss going to work at NAS NORVA. There is another retired squid here in town that was at NORVA while I was there.

I guess I will change it to: sunny Va Beach!

Right now I wish I was at NOB! Shipyard sucks. Speaking of the base, don't know if you had seen any pics of when hurricane isabel rolled through here (I was deployed at the time), but the water level in the parking lot at the carrier piers was up to the windows of the cars parked in the lot. I will have to look for the pic.

Can't wait for it to be back to 70*! Then my car becomes the only if it rains car, so I can get back on the bike!

Thank God for heated and insulated garage.

wait, you have never changed the GP's... do they work? 4 cycles to start... 4 30 second glows, or 4 attempts with the starter? you've had the injectors rebuilt, but never pulled the GP's... have you tested them? it's super easy to test them with the injectors out... just turn the key and look in the holes for the tip to glow... no glow, bad plug.
