Back in the late seventies for a while I commuted from Annapolis to out near the Dulles Airport. Learned that lesson long ago, never again.

Not a driving comute, but the WORST commute I heard of was a Pan Am pilot who was recalled after being furloughed for quite some time. He missed the flying and wanted to go back to it. He had already established a buisness and family, who supported him in going back to Pan Am. He accepted the recall and was of course sent to the most junior base in the Pan Am system which was Berlin, Germany. He comuted from Hawaii to Berlin. Just about 1/2 way around the world to get to work. He woull fly his trips in the last 1/2 of one month and the first 1/2 of the next month, so he was gone for a full month, and then had a month off. The "coummute" took him a day and a half.

My commute is just under 100 miles a day. I am going to enjoy being able to use my SDL again. My Suburban isn't nearly as fuel efficient.

Life's too short for such nonsense.
That is of course, unless you enjoy driving your automobile and it realxes you
My 50 mile round trip to school and back is perfect.

The Long and Short of it...

For three years, I commuted from Oak Harbor to Blaine, WA. 140 miles round trip. The last year that I did it, I was in a three way ride-share for three months, then a two way ride-share for three months, then the final six months by myself and still, I put 30,000 miles on my 1982 300TD! There was usually little traffic, so it wasn't too bad, but I tired of the drive, especially in the final year.

Now, my commute is 3.5 miles door to door, my 85 300SD barely has time to warm up!

Merry Christmas

commute

I commute 90 miles round trip everyday in my 1983 300D. This car enjoys being out on the road. I love racking up the miles in this car. I feel with only 223,000 miles I can't brag yet to Mereces owners. I feel once I get myself to about 300,000 I will then get some people impressed.

I commute 230 miles/day. Been doing it for 6 years now, through some of the worst lake effect snow the Great Lakes has to offer, right off the east end of Lake Ontario. I go through a car every 2 years. I buy older diesels, and run them until they rust through (road salt is brutal when it's on the car nearly every day for 4+ months).
My Benz is a nice road car, but it's really bad at starting in cold weather. godd thing I've got a backup car this year.

The longest commute I have heard of, not by car mind you, is a guy that had a Radio show in Dallas in the morning, and an afternoon show in Chicago.

I don't remember if he used commercial flights, or had is own plane.

My commute is about 4 miles each way, which I can make in about 15 minutes most days, even in heavy traffic.

The commute when I was doing my internship a few summers ago was less than 1 mile each way, I would have walked it, but it's a one mile stretch of dangerous roadway with no sidewalks

Sorry guys, mine is only about 1.2 miles door to door. Less than 3 round trip. But this is all by design though. Like driving, but commuting aint driving.

Bad part is that on a bad day there is no time to unwind with a nice drive on the way home. Not even a bar on the way home.
