Replacing ALDA

I recently bought an ALDA that hasn't been tampered with. I'd like to switch it with the one in my car, as the setscrew has been adjusted quite a ways out and the threads on the setscrew have been painted. Thus I cannot turn the screw CCW or CW without forcing it which I am not willing to do.
Now that I have fixed my overboost protection switch, which was dead, I get better power. My feeling is the ALDA now senses boost and acts accordingly. However I am getting some black smoke. Perhaps the PO didn't know about the overboost switch and just cranked the ALDA willy nilly as a cheap fix.
So I'd like to use the unmolested ALDA. Are there any pitfalls to doing this? Will the new ALDA return the pre-boost fuel delivery setting to a 'zero' specification? I'd also like to rebuild the old one if the capsules aren't busted, so I'm wondering where I can get some shims and the two o-rings.
Searching has yielded some information, but those threads relating to what I'm talking about just kind of ended with no clear resolution, which is why I am asking the question myself.

I've got about four ALDA's sitting on the shelf, three of which are unmolested. When I was playing around with it on the SD I swapped them out until I got the one that produced the most power right off the line. You will need a 27 mm (I think that is right) open end wrench. Get on the big nut underneath the ALDA and turn the nut clockwise looking down on the ALDA while holding the ALDA in place. You will then be able to remove it. It does not need to be very tight when you re-install it but you will want to inspect the gasket to insure a good seal.

You can purchase a brand new ALDA from a Bosch authorized facility but they are over $300.
