How to test ABS wheel sensors???

For 6 months or more, I've been getting intermittant chatter feedback from the brake pedal while comming to a full stop. I'm quite sure it is feedback from one or more of the 3 sensors.

Is there a way with a multi-meter to check, such as resistance etc???

Best way is to just clean the teeth at the sensors and clean the sensor while you're at it. It really is pretty easy. Go for the front ones, then test before worrying about the rear one. My dad's 300E did the same thing until an indie cleaned the teeth, now all's well. From what I've read heres so far, cleaning the teeth does the trick.

Thanks
David

I'm afraid I'm already past that stage. Cleaned them all last fall but didn't do any good!

They are quite expensive to replace, up around $200 each, I think?

The sensors are around $150 a piece I think. Did you clean the teeth real well with a screwdriver and wire brush? You want to get all the rust off, etc. If that doesn't fix it, I'd just take it to an indie to have them diagnose it and tell them you don't want to pay for them to guess and check, which as we all know=$$$. It shouldn't cost too much in labor and having ABS come on under normal braking extends your braking distance which makes it possibly dangerous. Be sure to address it before it's too late.

Thanks
David

If the ABS light is not on, your sensors are working correctly...

A bad flex line, binding or bad caliper will cause the ABS to give chatter feedback.

Yep, no ABS light comes on! When you say bad calipur, do yo mean a frozen calipur? Flex line, are you refering to those black plastic tubes? I've noticed them in the front, but have not looked to notice them for the rear. The rear ABS sensor I am under the belief is the single sensor on the differential since I do not see any at the wheels, correct?

If the black plastic tubes are present for the front, is there something for the rear too I'm not seeing, or am I totally confused here?

Any help straightening my confused mind will admirably be apprieciated! BB
