Thanks guys.....swapped out my alternator last night with the assistance of my son and it went surprisingly well. Hardest part was getting the two bolts to break free.
It's like driving a new car! The car is much quieter, idles at a lower rpm and I swear, the lights are brighter.

This was well worth the time and effort!

There is enough expertise on this forum to help you through about any repair you need to make to your MB. You might have to withstand a few insults or comments along the way, but the information is here.
