Optional equipment on 300 & 350SDL's

Does anyone have the list or know where I can view one of ALL of the available equipment for the 300 & 350 SDL's respectively?

I am just curious what was actually available each year.

The most I have seen on a 300SDL is power rear seat & heated front seats. Have not really seen many 350SDL in person, and those I DID see had no options. I am curious if there were other options available and if any were actually made with any other optional equipment.

A rear sunscreen and 4 place seating (like on the SEC) was also an option. The hydraulic rear suspension was an option as well (at least on the 350 - don't know about the 300). Velour seating and a sunroof were both no cost options as well as metallic paint. I have the dealer brochure at home on both the '90 and '91 350SDL - I will check when I get home and report back.

I think there were a number of options available throughout the W126 range, but many were 'special order'. I know that in Canada just about all the 300SDL's & 350SDL's came with Heated Seats front & rear.

The attached link gives a list of the M-B factory option codes with model applications indicated: Option Codes

O.K. here are options for '90 350SDL

Metallic paint
Rear window sunshade
Electric sliding sunroof
Velour upholstery
Heated front seats
Heated rear seats
Power rear seats
Front seats with electropneumatically adjustable orthopedic backrests
Front seats with reinforced frames
Four-place seating package with rear storage console
Passenger side airbag and knee bolster with lockable center console replacing glove box compartment

'91 models added the ASD - automatic locking differential

The '91 model 350SD could not be ordered with the four place seating package or the power rear seats.

Hope this helps. I don't have any info. on the 300SDL but I would imagine that it would be similar to the 350SDL.

There were add-ons that could be purchased at the dealership - block heaters, rear seat foot rests, etc.
The hydraulic suspension could be special ordered - pretty much anything could be (for the right amount of money). As a side-bar, several years ago I saw a '93 300SEL (yes, it was a '93 300SEL W140 - a 400SEL body with a 300SE engine) on ebay that was special ordered from the factory for an NBA basketball player. It even had a special body number - not in series with the other W140s.

Thanks for the info on the 1990-91.

Wonder why somebody would pay extra for a 6cyl in a longer heavier 140, when they could get the smoother more powerful V8 will similar gas mileage for probably the same price?

The gas 6cyl found in the 300SEL is like the gas equivalent of the 617 from what I've heard. Maybe he thought a smaller engine would be more reliable, and cost less to maintain than a big V-8???

Has anyone ever seen an SDL equipped with 4 place seating, or the hydraulic suspension or even the rear sun shade?

Thumbs up

My Parental Units had an '86 300E back in the 80s and it was a very smooth running motor... power delivery was linear. Ran like a small Bent 8.

Every 126 I've seen has as sunroof and power windows, front seats and door locks. These must have been standard.

These cars were so expensive I guess that people rarely ordered them loaded with options. To think my 300SD cost $40K in 1984 is incredible. I guess the fact that the car is still in top shape 21 years later shows that it was money well spent.

I have seen a 300SDL with a power rear sunshade, but I don't know if this was a factory option or fitted later - its not that hard to do. I saw a 560SEL once with 4-place seating, but not a 300SDL. Interesting, but rather a waste of space. I think each rear seat had individual recline although like the 'power rear seat' option movement is very restricted.
