Loud Clock!!!

I searched.
Not one thread addressing the clock noise. Why did Mercedes put such a noisy beast in there? Ever try to relax in a quiet place, wondering why that sucker is so darn noisy?
I do wonder if the tach/clock combos are quieter...
Anyone get around this?

You ever see the old Rolls Royce ad? The one that states at 60 mph the only sound inside a Rolls is the quiet ticking of the clock?...Not to be out done MB spent quite a bit of R&D funds to counter this claim. However in dealing with diesels they decided it might be best to lower the road rather than raise the bridge. Your listening to the result...

The combos must be quieter, I've never noticed mine. I can hear it if I really listen for it but not at any other time. I've never seen anything about this complaint either.... just be glad it works.

Is that a single clock, W123?

Load and in-op clock:

Leatherman, dig thru arcives for repair your clock.
It is a simple job and cost about $3.00. For two capasitors. While you are there use some fine grease on the gears.
About two years ago I looked all over the Dallas bone yards and could't find Tach and Clock.
So I thought"It not any good the way it is." And it has worked ever since.

Jimmy Joe, Thanks for the great offer... I have PM'd you....
Charlie, I remember people having great success with that cure... electrolytic capacitors are prone to leakage over the years...
Maybe I can talk ' busy beaver Randy' into tackling this for me.... or ( lightbulb moment ) I wonder if any of Randy's parts cars out here have good clocks ? Don't mention this to him, he will never miss them....
If this rain does not stop I am going to trade my 240 for a boat.
LOL

Come on we have a diesel engine up front I think that makes a bit more noise then a clock does. I only hear mine or pay attention to it if I am sitting in teh car with the motor off.

One of the best sayings in dealing with sounds old cars make is: Turn up the radio.

Well the solution is simple then! Fix the radio and you will solve a few other problems at the same time!

Unfortunately, neither of those parts cars have their instrument clusters...

Actually my bigger problem now is that the only Classic Rock station in Austin sold out to something called " Bob" radio... which I can not figure out or appreciate....

No really, I am serious!
The parking situation where I am taking classes is so tight, and my house is so chaotic, that I often show up a couple hours earlier to sit and wait, read and study or try to take a light snooze. And that darn clock is soo loud, it is a real, serious distraction. The car is one place I can park with a view and fresh air, and have a private space. Plus, I just like my car so darn much that I just like sittin in her. Sure, I love driving her too....
I know I sound like a sniveler, but my clock is really LOUD!
I have though of just disconnecting it, but it is so prominent...
